Meet the Artist.

Trev Wilmot: Landscape/Seascape Artist

I am a self taught visual artist working in acrylic and oil paint... mostly oils.

I started my art journey as an urban artist working exclusively with spray paint which was both difficult and mostly frowned on by society as a number of new and exciting things tend to be. I realised that I was never going to be able to progress in that medium as much as I would like so stopped and I turned to painting fantasy/surrealism for a short while. This was also not going as I would have liked so I just stopped..... for about 10 years of no art and no inspiration.

Then after meeting the love of my life and deciding to get married I thought it would be nice to have a painting of the wedding location.... and being I couldn’t find one that I liked in the price range I could afford I took out the brushes, bought some paint and proceeded to paint two paintings of Rottnest. One of Pinky's beach and one of The Basin as these were on our short list of ceremony locations.

This lit a fire inside me and I have not stopped painting since that day.

I have been learning every lesson along the way to try get better at what I'm doing, don't worry about the failures, ignore the negative unhelpful criticisms, acknowledge and absorb the positive helpful criticisms, but most importantly enjoy the process of creating.

The key I have found is to paint what makes your heart sing. For me it's Water, Waves, the ocean and the amazing colours of the Western Australian landscapes.

I have also ventured into painting wildlife but landscapes are definitely what gives me the most challenges and provides the most joy.
